About Dr. Susan

Dr. Susan Wang-Selfridge began her musical journey at the age of four, receiving academic training through a specialized music program during her formative years. She earned her Ph.D. in Music with a specialization in Composition and Theory from UCLA and is an award-winning composer. With over three decades of teaching experience, Dr. Susan has guided students aged 5 to 90 in piano performance, organ, music theory, musicianship, music history, music appreciation, and composition in Los Angeles and Ventura.

Dr. Susan is a long-term active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) and has an impressive teaching portfolio. To name a few, she has taught at the collegiate level for five years at UCLA and Pomona College, served as the principal accompanist at Manhattan Beach Middle School, and contributed to music enrichment programs in the Ventura, Santa Barbara Unified and Somis School Districts. Many of her students have excelled in their school music programs, achieving roles such as valedictorian at Buena High School, section leads at Ventura High School, Foothill Technology High School, and contributors to music ensembles at Cabrillo Middle School, Balboa Middle School, Anacapa Middle School, Montalvo Arts Academy, Will Rogers School, and more.

A dedicated educator and published scholar, Dr. Susan inspires her students to discover their unique musical voices, achieve personal growth, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for music.
